Welcome to the Croydon Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Support Group website, we are a registered charity based in Croydon, Surrey. Our members include individuals affected with Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia, their families, carers, supporters and professionals. The main aim of our efforts is to help improve the quality of life for affected individuals, their families and carers.

As a voluntary group we always need more help and support, so if you want to know how you can help or want us to help you in any way, please do not hesitate to contact us.  We work closely with the dedicated staff at the Croydon Sickle Cell Centre and contact them if you need more information on Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia.

London To Brighton Bike Ride

Mark Sarfo, a mutual friend of Toks Timson, is doing the London to Brighton Bike Ride (21st June) one week before the event at Crystal Palace.  He will be raising funds for the support group from sponsorship with Barclays. He suggests that one of the best and easiest ways for contributions and to raise funds for this type of event is by setting up a Justgiving Sponsorship page and here is link...
http://www.justgiving.com/statements/about_us/charities.asp

Many thanks to Mark wish him best of luck on the bike ride.

 Coldbusters

Croydon Energy Network is a government agency charged with delivering advice and grants to reduce fuel poverty and make households more energy efficient. The type of assistance that they can give includes giving advice on energy providers, providing loft insulation, replacing boilers over 15 years old, draughtproofing and cavity walls and much more.

There are of course some conditions attached. Applicants must be on a low income and be either owner occupiers or in private rented accommodation.

To find out more or to obtain free energy efficiency advice you can call Coldbusters on 0208 683 6666.

Half price Bus fares for Income Support Claimants
People in receipt of Income Support (IS) will, by way of Oyster Card, pay just half the price for a single fare totaling 50p.

In order to take advantage of this scheme, IS claimants will need to take their IS decision notice and two passport sized photos to the Post Office with their Oyster Cards and complete the relevant form.

They will then be issued with a photo card which they will have to show each time they got to top-up the Oyster Card as proof they are eligible for the discount.

The discount can only be operated through the Oyster Card so anyone interested in applying will first have to apply for an Oyster Card and please note this scheme is limited to bus fares only. No other form of travel will attract the discount.

People in receipt of Incapacity Benefit or Disability Living Allowance, should apply for a Freedom Pass, which grants free public transport. These are issued by the Local Authority and granted on the basis that you demonstrate significant mobility problems.
